These animals seem well aware that they are mere props in an Elle photoshoot with starlet Amanda Seyfried, and they are none too pleased about it.

Employees at a Cocoa Beach Social Security office in Central Florida called 911 on Friday to report a “suspicious package” that was left on their doorstep with no postage or address.

The bomb squad was called in to defuse the situation, but when they arrived on the scene, there was no “tick-tock,” coming from the box, instead they heard stirring and a “meow.”

Inside the box were two terrified kittens. Sadly, one of the kittens ran away and hasn’t been found. The other will be taken to an animal shelter.

I think it goes without saying that leaving unwanted animals in an unmarked box outside a government building is probably not a good idea.

UPDATE There’s a video!

In this edition of wtf is wrong with people, a Nanaimo man faces animal cruelty charges after “using excessive force during grooming” of a six-month-old kitten. The kitten suffered severe head trauma, a fractured rib, extreme neck and abdominal pain, fever, dermatitis and a broken tooth. After $3,000 in vet bills, Tommy the kitten is expected to make a full recovery, though she will have a malformed skull for the rest of her life.

The man accused is the nephew of Tommy’s owner, and while the kitten remains in the home, the owner has agreed not to let the abuser near the residence.

The court date is set for August 4th and if convicted under the Criminal Code, the abuser faces a fine up to $10,000, six months in jail and a ban on owning animals, (yes!).

To counter the bad mojo from ‘kitten in a tiny hat’ and the recent revelation of his ties to the dairy industry, I bring you ‘little kitty riding a turtle.’

My favorite kitten, and yours, ‘kitten in a tiny hat,’ is, as it turns out, a dairy spokeswhore. Here he is greedily eating a tiny cone of ice cream in a Lake Street Creamery commercial. All of these cute outtakes on YouTube were just a rouse to get us to buy ice cream…

The current cat video taking the world by storm is this perplexing piece starring a kitten in a tiny hat. I’m not sure what exactly sets off the adult cat, I can only assume the look of that tiny hat just rubbed her the wrong way. Maybe she thought kitten was getting too big for his britches. I guess we’ll never know.

We’ve all heard the horror stories of pets accidentally getting tossed into the washing machine (or worse, thrown in on purpose). Well today there was a happy ending in sunny Australia for one such pet, a 4-month-old kitten named Kimba.

Kimba’s owner, Lindsay Rogers, told the Manly Daily that the kitten had snuggled into the clothes in the machine while his back was turned.

Rogers said: “I put the clothes in, put the powder and the fabric softener in, put it on a cold wash – which was very lucky – and put it on for a 30-minute cycle. When I opened the door, it just went ‘meow’ and stuck its head out. I couldn’t believe it – the spin cycle at the end goes really fast and I couldn’t believe it survived.”

Kimba has since recovered from the ordeal and was “purring like a little motor” following emergency medical treatment at Allambie Vet.

It just goes to show haw careful we have to be with our pets, especially around comfy piles of laundry!
